The autumn season is clearly just around the corner and what better way to celebrate it with some Orange Chocolate Cupcakes. I loved doing those and just imagine yourself all cosy on the sofa, a candle burning, a cuppa on the go and you’re just about to bite into a delicious Orange Chocolate Cupcake. Doesn’t that sound great! So let’s get baking!

Orange Chocolate Cupcakes
You need for 12 cupcakes: 150 g caster sugar, 3 eggs, 150 g soft unsalted butter, 150 g flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 100 g dark chocolate & 200 g bitter orange jam.
Start of by combining the caster sugar and the butter. Then add the eggs and whisk until you have an airy light yellow mix. Fold in the flour and baking powder.
Now to the fun part! Take your bitter orange jam and drop some blobs onto your cupcake mixture. Run a spoon through the mix to create a marble effect.
So take your dark chocolate and heat it on a low heat. When it’s melted, add it to the cupcake mixture the same way as with your jam. As the chocolate is dark and your mix quite yellow you will immediately see the marble effect come through!
What’s left to do is fill your cupcake tray and bake it in the oven for about 20 min on 180° C.
Orange butter cream icing
Whilst your cupcakes are in the oven we can get started with our orange butter cream icing.
As always I start of with 110 g of unsalted butter. Whisk it up until it is smooth and has an almost white colour. To get that orange tinge I used a few drops of yellow and red food colouring. Then add 220 g of icing sugar bit by bit and mix it really well. When everything is well combined, whisk it for another 5 min. Then it’s time to add some of that bitter orange jam. I used about 4 tablespoons. You can add less or more, just taste it! Whisk your icing for another 1 or 2 minutes and you’re done.
Now it should be time to take your cupcakes out of the oven and let them cool. Once they are cold, take them out of the tray and we can start decorating them.
Today I used a new piping nozzle, which I got from my mum. It creates the cutes flowers! Creating those flowers I just hold the piping bag straight down at the cupcake and begin to squeeze out the orange butter cream icing. Whilst squeezing I start to lift my piping bag upwards while twisting it a little bit from the left to right to left. This way you get the most amazing ripples.
